  FDCA is identified by the US Department of Energy as one of 12 priority chemicals for establishing the “green” chemistry industry of the future. Its polymer Polyethylene Furanoate (PEF) has better gas barrier and mechanical property compared to Polyester (PET). Meanwhile, FDCA is produced from biomass that can reduce oil-based material by 40-50% and greenhouse gas emission by 45-55%. Therefore, PEF is a renewable and environmentally friendly material. FDCA can be produced into bio-based polyester PEF for bottle, fiber and film. Another application is to produce polyamides. Polyamide is a kind of polymer with high strength and long-lived material. Polyamides can be made into fiber for various applications such as carpet, fabric and sport clothing. It also can be produced into engineering plastics used in the field of auto industry, household products and electronic products.
