INTRODUCTION HCG is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta during pregnancy. The concentration of HCG in serum is approxiately equal to the concentration in urine. The concentrations of HCG in urine and serum continue to rise during the first trimester of pregnancy to as high as 100,000 mIU/ml. HCG test shows no cross-reactivity with structurally related hormounes (FSH, LH, TSH) in normal maximum physiological concentrations. ASSAY PROCEDURE 1. Remove the dipstick from pouch by tearing and label the device with specimen identification. 2.Carefully place the white end of the raction strip into the specimen vial. Make sure that the absorbent patch (white end of the strip) is under neath the surface of the sample liquid. A ten to thirty seconds dip into the sample is sufficient. 3.Remove end of the test strip from the reaction vial and within ten minutes, a pink-colored band will appear at the top of the control region, indicating the reaction is completed. RESULTES Negative: Only one colored band appears on the control region. No colored band in the test region. Positive: In addition to the control band, a distinct colored band also appears in the test region. Invalid: If no bands appear, or a test band appear with out a control band, the test shoud be repeated using a new test.
