It is used for glues, pills, bread making, food emulsifiers, it stabilizes wine & soft drinks, and it is a fixative in the ceramics, printing, & paint production industries and has many other uses. Arid Lands Resources Ltd have almost 20years been researching gum arabic & other resins in n. Kenya. Northern Kenya arid lands & semi arid lands are endowed with a rich diversity of plants resources especially gums and resins. These are articles of commerce contribute to uplifting standards of local inhabitants and the region. The region, which depends almost entirely on livestock production, is impoverished with poverty levels being among the highest in the country Arid lands resources ltd recognized the potential that exist in developing the offtake of gum and resins as the right step to-ward sustainable economic development of these arid and semi arid lands of northern Kenya. The main objectives is to develop the offtake of gums and resins to assist this economic development to poverty eradication From experience where we already collect gum arabic & other resins from trained communities they no longer cut trees for charcoal as they see the value of collection of gum arabic. Hence the programme has also a big environmental effect The arid and semi arid lands are aprox 70% of land area of Kenya. Many pastoralists now collect regularly and it is a valuable offtake other than livestock. It helps with poverty eradication. Many companies in Kenya, France & u. K have purchased gum arabic in past from the charity salt lick which has now privatised its arid lands resources and receives royalties from this new company arid lands resources ltd. We have good premises in nanyuki, full equipped laboratory and staff, which have been well trained for over 10 years. We are very carefull that only gum arabic of high quality is selected & sorted and graded etc Many of your goodselves have purchased in the past or received sample.
