Objectives o To promote organic agriculture in ChongChongwe Organic Producers And Processrs Association District in particular and Zambia in general, in this way, on-farm productivity for small scale farmers will improve, o To facilitate improved market linkages for members, o To negotiate better credit for members at affordable payback rates, o To strengthen farmer organizations such as co-operatives through capacity building, o To promote increased production of organic products mainly for the local market as well as exports of non-traditional crops. Overview Chongwe Organic Producers and Processors Association (CHOPPA) has been established to facilitate production, processing, packaging, distribution and marketing of organic products for domestic and export market. In 2005, local farmers in Chongwe district from ten farmer associations came together to form CHOPPA so that as a group they could solve some of the constraints they faced in the past such as poor access to affordable input credit, limited access to markets, poor infrastructure and lack of production logistical support. The Association received its formal registration on 7 September 2005. This season, 2005/6, CHOPPA is engaged in facilitating the production of organic cotton on a large scale and intends to promote the organic production of essential oils, groundnuts, soyabeans, pigeon peas, velvet beans, jack beans, sorghum, herbs and spices, sunnhemp and fresh vegetables.
