This journey through uncharted terrain took a relatively unknown name from Galle in the South of Sri Lanka and carefully nurtured it into a brand leader with national & international recognition. The task was not without the pitfalls & obstacles, reward & successes associated with the building of a strong brand that had to stand the test of time. Time that put to test his courage and determination to succeed against all odds and convert his vision into a reality. He cleverly identified the various opportunities that came his way and set the foundation for a strong brand and a diverse group of companies. He loved his country, the people and revered & practiced traditional family values, particularly those of the South that have now been enshrined into the DSI corporate culture at every level. His special relationship with his employees was that of a father to a son that extended beyond the realm of his own family. Milestones Founder chairman along with his children selling local and imported footwear through D. Samson & Sons Ltd, a small shop located in Colombo Fort. Introduction of a small footwear assembly line with 16 employees D Samson Industries incorporated as a limited liability company. Setting up of rubber mixing plant. 1st export consignment to Saudi Arabia. D. Samson & Sons Ltd opens the first DSI showroom in the heart of Colombo. Opening of 1st diversification project - Samson Exports Garment factory. Incorporated Samson Trading Company to directly import raw materials and to sell shoe components and accessories to small scale shoe manufacturers. Opening of 2nd shoe factory Samson Manufacturers Ltd., to make footwear under the brand name "Ranpa". Incorporated Samson Engineers (Pvt) Ltd., to manufacture moulds, cutter dyes and other components using modern technology. 2nd diversification project Samson Rubber Industries Ltd., to manufacture bicycle tyres & tubes under the DSI brand name. DSI Footwear 25 Years anniversary. Listing of Samson International as a public quoted company in the Colombo Stock Exchange. Launching of Sithuvili art competition. Diversified to coir sector by setting up Samtessi Brush Manufacturing plant to export coir products. Incorporated Samson Rubber Products company to manufacture and export moulded rubber products. Entrepreneur of the year award winner. Opening of 3rd shoe factory Samson Sportswear Ltd., to manufacture school and sports shoes. Incorporated DDP Packaging to produce corrugated cartons. D. Samson & Sons Ltd opens the 100th ultra-modern DSI showroom in Kandy. Diversified to food & beverages sector by joining with Kelani Valley Canneries (KVC) Ltd. DSI selected as one of three outstanding brands in Sri Lanka by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. DSI Footwear 40 Years anniversary. Opening of Samson Rajarata Tiles clay roofing tile manufacturing plant. Opening of first showroom in Chennai, India. FILA and RBK (REEBOK) appoint D. Samson & Sons as authorized reseller in Sri Lanka. Incorporated Samson Information Technologies to provide IT services and products. DSI Samson Group enters Joint collaboration with SDV International Logistics (Pvt) Ltd. Incorporated Hydro Trust Lanka a mini hydro project generating 2 mega watts of power. Incorporation of Samson Bikes (Pvt) Ltd. - Diversification to Bike Manufacturing and export to European Markets. Mount Spring Water (Pvt) Ltd. - Sweet water bottling, and trading, of natural spring water from virgin forest area. CIC Agribusiness joined DSI Samson Group (Pvt) Ltd as major partner in Kelani Valley Canneries (KVC). DSI Samson Group has a 20 percent stake in this subsidiary of CIC Agribusiness. DSI Samson Group extended partnership with Asiri Hospitals Ltd. through investment in Central Hospitals Colombo. (Asiri Central) Incorporated Samson Insurance Brokers ( Pvt) Ltd a Fully owned subsidiary of DSI Samson Group ( Pvt.) Ltd. Expansion of Samson Rubber Industries (Pvt) Ltd. Tires and Tubes manufacturing Plant at Rathupaswala.
