The quality can be any high (or low) quality/grade available in Russia, including 99.7% primary aluminum ingots (A7), A7E, up to 99.997% (A4N7), 99.9995% (A5N) and 99,9999% (A6N). The company I represent is NOT an aluminum producer, has no aluminum to sell, and therefore is NOT in a position to provide specific price quotes in advance of actually arranging for purchase for the buyer at low prices. We are buyer's agent only. Compensation can be: 1) based on a retainer (to cover the cost of travel and other expenses necessary to make preliminary arrangements), plus a negotiated split of what we save the buyer in terms of a lower price, compared to the agreed best price otherwise available to your company, OR 2) in the alternative, if the buyer is able to provide us with a written commitment to purchase a specified quantity of a specified grade of aluminum at a specified price relative to the London Metal Exchange (LME) price (such as LME minus 3 1/2%, for example), when and if delivered within a specified period (say, 12 months), then the buyer would save less on the purchase, but there will be no need to provide a retainer. If the buyer wants to receive shipments monthly, this is also possible, provided the starting date is left open. Some idea of the potential savings (if the buyer chooses to provide a retainer) can be understood from the following: 'We make purchases within Russia with our rubles, keeping the buyer's dollars outside Russia. Dollars outside the U.S. are worth as much as 40% more than dollars inside Russia, because internal dollars cannot be freely exported. This reduces the purchase prices paid by our clients.' By purchasing with our rubles, we get a better exchange rate of rubles for dollars than those who pay with a letter of credit in dollars, for two reasons. First, pricing in Russia is two tiered, low for domestic buyers and consumption (below western production costs) and high for 'foreign' buyers. The company I represent is accepted in Russia as a domestic buyer. Second, those who preside over the official exchange of rubles for dollars inside Russia skim off a significant percentage of the rubles that would otherwise go to the smelter. By purchasing in Russia with our rubles, we eliminate this loss, enabling our clients to pay less in terms of dollars, while the smelter gets more in terms of rubles. The net savings from these combined factors can be very substantial. Under either arrangement, all risks related to chaotic conditions inside Russia are left with the seller. Payment is made by bank wire transfer after aluminum is delivered to a location acceptable to buyer and seller physically out of Russia and has been inspected for quality.
