- About Us : The East Texas Food Bank feeds thousands of hungry people throughout 26 counties of North East Texas through a network of 200 member agencies. As a result of all of this food being collected, stored, and distributed to all these people in need, East Texas Food Bank also generate thousands of pounds of product that is considered distressed or unsalvageable and therefore cannot be used for the purpose of our mission. Many of these unsalvageable products are dry packaged products (cake mix, pasta, flour, corn meal, cereal, snacks, potato chips, dried fruit, soups, etc.) that are out of date or have integrity issues with seal and / or packaging (missing and / or torn in most cases) . It is with these dry-unsalvageable products in mind that I ask you to consider the possible benefit of using products such as these as a feed mix / supplement for swine and if you think this idea deserves further exploration / consideration and if you think this would in fact benefit hog farmers and / or if you have other possible suggestions for better utilization of these otherwise perfectly good food products.
