- About Us : Established in 2000, Honey Care Africa is an innovative Fair Trade social enterprise working to promote sustainable community-based beekeeping in East Africa. Honey Care Africa manufacture high quality Langstroth Hives and Beekeeping Equipment. We then work closely with various local and international development organisations to provide small-scale farmers across East Africa with training, access to micro-finance loans and extension services and technical support to start beekeeping. We also provide the farmers with a guaranteed market for their bee products at Fair Trade prices. We have helped to establish close to 19,000 Langstroth Hives in the region and provide on-going support to close to 5,000 households in the region. Honey Care Africa has received a number of international awards and accolades for its work, including the UNDP Equator Initiative Prize, World Bank International Development Marketplace Award, and the World Business Award. Some of our project partners include the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Africa Now, DANIDA, DFID, European Union, UNDP, Aga Khan Foundation, German Agro-Action, as well as the Open Societies Institute. Our well-trained staff and farm-gate collection system, coupled with our strict internal quality control measures, ensures that we only get the purest honey and highest quality of beeswax. We received the Kenya Quality Award in 2004 from the Kenya Bureau of Standards for having the highest quality honey.
