The process of making lacquer is very complicated and requires preciseness as well as cleverness. The main material to make lacquer is our paint (the latex of wax-trees) available in the North-West of Vietnam. In addition, we can use the powder of minerals such as gold, silver, copper, stones and egg shells. You can have a look at the following steps to know about this process:1. Making the frame of each product:The frame can be made up of wood or bamboo and is carefully processed to avoid being curved, unleveled or cracked in any weather circumstances.2. Making the lacquer stature:After processing the frame, the artisans wrap it closely with about 3 or 4 layers of fabric and cover each layer with the mixture of paint, alluvial soil and sawdust. When it becomes dry, this cover will be as hard as steel.Next, they will continue cover the face of the product with a layer of paint until it is dry and polish it 3-4 times so as to have a product with smooth face and deep-lying details.3. Drawing the lacquer:The painters draw the details on the products and then cover them with a layer of paint, wait for it to get dry, and polish it until the details appear as the artisans wish. This process of lacquer drawing repeats about 2 or 3 times.4. Polishing the cover:The last layer of covering paint will be polished by sharpening hair and cotton on the wet base of powdered wood.Our lacquer products are being highly evaluated by the domestic as well as overseas markets in terms of quality and artistic features.
