The primary focus of ikwezi art centre is the upliftment of previously disadvantaged artists and to create an outlet for the sustainability of a commercially viable venue for talented individuals in order to explore their creative abilities to full potential. Given the yet unexplored artistic talent in township schools throughout south Africa as well other artists requiring funding and an outlet for their works, Ikwezi art centre will eventually become a sustainable art centre offering the following subsidised facilities: The exhibition of original African art on canvass, paper using oils, acrylics and mixed media; The training of new up-and-coming artists. We have recently taken on a new crafter who has extensive experience and training and will be exploring the use of other forms of art. The bringing of township art to the broader population and the tourist trade; Present position Two rondavels are currently erected at the montebello design centre in a beautiful setting within a forest environment. The artists working there are all from townships and are provided with a travel allowance every month. They are also given the art materials which they require to produce their art works. The location of Ikwezi art centre gives our artists the ideal forum to earn money from their talent and to inspire other artists to do the same. At present the public are able to visit the Ikwezi art centre to witness the artists currently busy painting and to purchase art work Our latest project is involved with the stretching of our own canvass and we are presently supplying to the local community in cape town.
