One business is into printing inks (Microinks-JV with Huber of Germany) and the other into manufacturing of pesticides (Bilag-JV with Bayer of Germany) . We have world's largest inks and pyrethroid (pesticides) manufacturing plants in India. ABOUT MERIL LIFE SCIENCESWe are based in a small industrial town called Vapi, which is 150kms north of Mumbai in India. Meril operations were started operations in mid-2007 and currently we boast of 40, 000 Sq. ft. of ultra-modern manufacturing facility for Vascular stents. Our technology has been sourced from USA and Europe just like all our manufacturing equipments, machinery and interiors. We have more than 8, 000 Sq. ft. of Class 10, 000 clean rooms and all our key manufacturing activities are done under Class 100 Laminar Air Flow. Our plant has ISO 13485 and cGMP certification and we are currently also in the process of undergoing US FDA manufacturing audit. We have all processes in-house right from vascular stents manufacturing to PTCA & PTA Catheter manufacturing and we undertake Ethylene Oxide sterilisation as well as all analytical chemistry and microbiological tests done in-house. We are currently a growing team of 75 persons (60 in manufacturing) with an average age of 27years. The team comprises of Engineers, Designers, R& D Chemists, QA personel, Regulatory and Clinical people and Marketing functions. Our current portfolio includes both Bare Metal Stents and Drug Eluting StentsWe have 3 CE marked and Indian FDA approved Bare Metal Stents-1. NexGen-Cobalt Chromium Coronary Stent System (Novel hybrid cell design concept) 2. Crypton-Stainless Steel Coronary Stent System (Novel hybrid cell design concept) 3. Osum-Cobalth Chromium Coronary Stent System (Open cell design concept) We have 2 Indian FDA approved Drug Eluting Stents (both products are pending CE mark) 1. BioMime-Sirolimus Eluting Biodegradable Polymer Coated Coronary Stent System (NexGen platform) 2. Xmplar-Low Dose Sirolimus Eluting Polymer Free Coronary Stent System (Osum platform) Both these approvals were provided on the grounds that we are a generic DES-known drug, known polymer and known metal platform and substantial pre-clinical work done with Dr. Renu Virmani, CV Path, USA and Dr. Imad Sheiban, CISRA, Turin, Italy. We are now preparing for CE marking of these products. In our polymer free DES where we have both Sirolimus and Paclitaxel as active drugs and are ready for first in man studies. Here we are using low drug dose which is 1 / 3rd that of either Cypher or Taxus with high bioavailability & fantastic results. Our Paclitaxel eluting polymer free DES known as PACIFIC is currently under pre-clinicals with Dr. Renu Virmani at CV Path. We will launch Pacific-PES in Europe once it is CE marked. Just to provide you with a glimpse of our design philosophy and its outcomes-NexGen-Cobalt chromium coronary stent system. The philosophy of our bare stent is to create a low injury stent thus reducing restenosis. NexGen stent has ultra-low strut thickness of 65microns and an intelligent mix of open and close cells which ensure there is a morphology mediated expansion to minimise vascular injury during stent deployment (no dog boning) . The 6, 8 and 10 crown configurations ensure that there is optimal scaffolding and conformability. On bench tests, NexGen has competitive radial strength (>1bar) and zero recoil and foreshortening. The special polishing process ensures that there is a mirror finish on the surface without any residual surface metal oxides.
