In the lush green fields and meadows of the U.K. an average dairy cow produces 7600 litres of quality milk per year. The milking of the cows is an automated procedure with the milking parlours reflecting the standard of hygiene and care that is prevalent throughout the process of taking from the field to consumer. During the transportation of milk from farmer to processor it is essential that this be undertaken in tightly controlled conditions. Transporter operators have vehicles equipped with a highly accurate meter, automatic sampler and data transfer equipment which communicates information by computer to and from Head Office daily. Upon arrival the milk is rechecked and stored in special refrigerated silos The milk is passed through dryers for its preparation to become infant formula milk powder or nutritional products. Upon arrival at the processing unit all milk is retested before entering the drying process. Here the resultant product, prepared to Codex Alimentarius standards is packed into 25 kg bags in preparation for the blending stage. The various dry ingredients then enter the blending and packaging process.
