The NAF was founded by Lt. Brig. Gyan Singh, former Principal of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute HMI Darjeeling, Nehru Institute of Mountaineering NIM Uttarkashi and was the Leader of first Indian Expedition to Mount Everest in 1960.
