• About Us : The tradesman of pasta foods Vincenzo Afeltra, son of Orazio, rented a building from Marianna Spagnuolo di Francesco, to be used as a pasta factory on Via S. Marco for an annual fee of 600 Lire (50 Lire monthly), betPASTIFICIO GIUSEPPE AFELTRAen November 2 1900 and November 2 1905. The contract was stipulated on April 5 1900 with subsequent extensions. In fact, between 1911 and 1014 the annual fee increased to 1200 Lire (100 Lire monthly) and Vincenzo Afeltra promised to correspond 120 kilograms of the best pasta every year to Mrs. Spagnuolo (60kg. at Christmas and 60kg. at Easter). In December 1910 Vincenzo passed away, leaving the business to his son Giuseppe who rented the same building from Mrs. Spagnuolo for an annual fee of 18000 Lire, starting from November 2 1911 to November 2 1921 and promising to correspond, in addition, 400 kilograms of the best pasta, yearly, distributed in quantities decided by the landlord. The contract was extended from 1921 to 1929. The private agreement starting from April 18 1929 for adjudication of the pasta factory, property that had passed through Mrs. Spagnuolo�s testament to the hospital �Ospedali Riuniti di S. Antonio di Casa Scola�, was again rented to Giuseppe Afeltra for the annual fee of 16190 Lire with a contract from November 2 1929 to November 11 1936. With the heavy economical crisis of 1929, even Giuseppe Afeltra�s industry suffered and the owner was forced to ask for a reduction of the annual fee and to sublet the factory to his nephew, Cav. Olimpio Afeltra. In 1934 Giuseppe Afeltra left the factory completely to his nephew, only to move into the adjacent building because the pasta company owned by Gemma, the widow of Francesco Afeltra, went out of business. After a short time Giuseppe Aeltra, unable to support the enormous pressure of the annual fee and after having settled his creditors, closed down.
