Normally steel belong to En, SAE,AISI and Din specification are subjected to the below mentioned test before approval for production.1) MACRO INSPECTION :- Involves pickling of steel for exposing seam lines and subjecting to upend test to check the harmful effect of the seam lines. For critical components like crankshaft BLUE FRACTURE TEST is recommended.2) CHEMICAL ANALYSIS :- Determination of the percentage of elements like carbon, ilicon,manganese, sulphur, phosphorus, nickel, chromium, molybdenum and vanadium3) MECHANICAL TESTING :- Tensile testing, impact testing, Brinnel and RockUNION METALLURCAL CONSULTANTSll hardness checking, JOMINY END QUENCH HARDENABILITY TEST, heat treatment and subjecting a rough forged test bar forged to the ruling section of the required component.4) MICRO INSPECTION :- Determination of GRAINS SIZE IN STEEL and inclusion Rating HEAT TREATMENT : The mass production of forgings are subjected to various treatment process of stress relieving annealing, normalizing, hardening ( oil or water quenching) and tempering5) METALLORAPHY OF HEAT TREATED FORGINGS:- Studying the microstructure of various heat treated forgings ( Normalized, normalized hardened and tempered ) 6) CONSULTANCY COVERS :- SETTING UP OF METALLURGICAL LABORATORY INCLUDING SELECTION OF LABORQATOY EQUIPMENTS, CHEMICALS, PREPARAATION OF VARIOUS STANDARD SOLUTIONS FOR CHEMICAL ANALYSES AND MECHANICAL TESTING PROCEDURES, TRAINING OF METALLURGICAL CHEMISTS. THE CHEMISTS WILL BE TRAINED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO HOLD JOINT INSPECTION WITH VISL , BASL, MUSCO , ETC STEEL MANUFATURERS, IN CASE, IF THERE IS ANY DEVIATION FROM CHEMICAL , MECHANICAL OR METALLOGRAPHYCAL PROPERTIES OF MUTUALLY AGREED SPECIFICATION. 6) RECOMMENDED STEEL MANUFACTURES IN INDIA:- VISWASARAYYA IRON AND STEEL, MAHINDRA UGINE STEEL CO AND BIHAR ALLOY STEEL.
