• Company Name : Wildlife World
  • About Us : From the onset the environmental impact of the business was a main concern.Wildlife World used recycled quality durable timber and no chemical preservatives. Now based in Chavenage, Nr Tetbury out main production is all from FSC certified well managed timber. As the business has grown FSC Cedar and Oak is sourced for our workshops from the Forest of Dean. Other FSC timber/products or components are sourced in other countries with certification bodies. We are one of the few suppliers with our own workshops that use naturally durable timbers which require more complex drying and supply plans to ensure continuity of supply but this timber eliminates the need for chemical preservatives. Our main aim is to encourage responsible forestry. Our philosophy is....."it is no good buying a wildlife product from an unknown source which may be ruining a habitat in another country to provide one here...."The transport of timber to our workshops and to customers is calculated and mostly offset through the Climate Care carbon offset scheme to minimize the carbon impact of our business. We use recycled board in most of our packing boxes and 8 years ago we developed the "Uley Tiger" our own machine which recycles cardboard boxes into packing material elminating bubble wrap. Waste cardboard is sent to a specialist recycling company, we only use waterbased stains and paints for the safety of the animals, birds, bees and our staff. We have our own ethical production criteria for major suppliers we have not visited personally. We minimise plastic use and we try to source any plastic needed in recycled format.Product testing - we have a 35 acre farm in Devon which we have converted to organic with the Soil Association. (organic cider apples and grass for hay) With the tireless help of the marvelous volunteers from the Charity Moor Trees we have planted 4000 native trees as part of Dartmoor native broadleaved woodland regeneration. The trees cover 11 acres and now have mown pathways to access the different woodland areas and habitats. The woodland has been used by various environmental groups and students to do botanical, entomology and biodiversity studies. These areas are where we test new wildlife products - it can often take up to two years to develop a new product following the initial design in our workshop. We always strive to improve! We know there is still alot to do!Thank you for buying from Wildlife World, you have enabled us to support a huge range of ENVIRONMENTAL and wildlife projects both here and around the world over the last 10 years. These include financial support and promotional support to The International Bee Rsearch Association, The British Hedgehog Preservation Society, Hedgehog Rescue Centres, the Centre For Alternative Technology, The Bumble Bee Conservation Trust, Wildlife Rescue Centres, Tree Planting Schemes restoring native woodland on Dartmoor etc etc, and through Climate Care we have contributed to the set up of flagships carbon reduction schemes throughout the developing world to include projects to provide efficient stores in Uganda and Cambodia, windpower schemes in Shandong, micro hydro power in Mavi, biomass power in Argentina, treacle pumps in India and rainforest restoration in Uganda.
