• About Us : Mr. V. P. Windlass founded windlass steelcrafts (wsc) in 1943 to manufacture gurkha kukris for the british army in India. Looking at the consistent quality and delivery schedules, the british appointed wsc as the sole approved area contractor. Windlass steelcrafts continued supplying kukris to the british gurkhas stationed in malaya, Singapore, Hong kong and Nepal, even after India attained independence in 1947. During the same time it started contracting with the Indian government for items like jungle cutting dhas, clasp knives, pruning knives, etc. For use by the Indian army. In the late 1960's when kukris started becoming popular in Windlass Steelcraftsstern countries, wsc started supplying them to Indian trading houses for export and added many more edged weapons of Indian and foreign origin to their line of products. The company started direct exports in 1978 and has since then added several hundred new products both in edged weapons and in medieval armor. Today wsc manufactures edged weapons, period clothing, armor, for the discerning collectors, re-enactors, history buffs and for defense forces of many countries. Our fastest growing market is the collectible products that we have made for many blockbuster movies including gladiator, lord of the rings, Kingdom of heaven and hbo production rome.
